Project Story

This project took me to the Norwegian west coast, Fitjar, where we added a large rooftop PV system to one large fish hatchery.

My responsibility was designing the system in detail, optimize the layout and ensuring the installers received the support needed so the project could be realised.
With over 3,000 modules, it became the west coast’s largest rooftop solar system at that time.

Challenges & Solutions

Working site
With a site this size, being efficient on the roof is everything.
Together with the installation teams I broke the project into clear steps and mapped out a practical installation plan. We also shared experience from earlier projects with each other which helped us solve issues to prevent challenges.

Roof layout
The roof was divided into several large sections with different shapes and conditions, which made both design and installation more complex. To keep a steady and fast pace of the installation, we arranged workstations on each section with the right material and tools prepared to align the conditions and the layout design.

Scale
Experience from past large scale projects was really helpful here.
We created a mini production line for the mounting system in the work stations and split the team into smaller groups. This setup kept the installation structured and efficient.

Looking back

The sheer scale of this project is what I remember most.
Handling thousands of modules could have felt overwhelming, but turning it into a structured process made it achievable and satisfying to see grow step by step.
It created a bond with the installer, the project leaders and myself, a relationship built on trust and transparency that continues beyond the project.
